HOW TO SIGN UP FOR THIS FIELD TRIP
Students need to bring 2 things in to sign up for our field trip. They will need to bring their payment (CASH or CHECK made out to East Middle School) and the attached enrollment form to their music teacher no later than Thursday March 29th 2018.
Please note that to be sure you secure a spot it is important to get your form and deposit in as early as possible. It is our desire to include every interested participant, but if space/bus limitations should arise, participants will be included on a first-come-first-served basis.
COST OF FIELD TRIP
In order to secure a spot for the trip, all students (and chaperones) are asked to fill out the appropriate enrollment form and to bring the $35.00 (add $2 for vegetarian lunch = $37) payment for each participant (child and chaperone) to school by March 29th. Payment can be made by CASH or by CHECK. If paying by check please make it payable to EAST MIDDLE SCHOOL, and please include your child’s name in the memo section. Due to the fact that buses and tickets must be reserved well in advance of the game, payments for the trip are non-refundable.
The price of the trip includes transportation to and from Toledo via luxury motor coach, ticket to the game, a lunch that includes hot dog, chips, and drink (a vegetarian option is available to those who have dietary requirements for an additional $2) and a special t-shirt that will be worn on the trip.
**It is not our desire to exclude any student due to financial reasons. Students in need of financial assistance should see their music teacher as soon as possible, and no later than Wednesday March 28th.
If you are chaperoning, feel free to combine your child’s and your payment on one check, just make a note of it in the memo section. Also, please make sure that you sign the enrollment form where it asks for parent/guardian signature. If you have questions, please contact your child’s music teacher.
CHAPERONES (We really need you ☺)In addition to three teachers, we are able to provide a fun-filled Tuesday for a limited number of parents who want to help the kids with their performance and watch the game. Chaperones are expected to ride the bus to and from Toledo. Due to the nature of chaperone responsibilities, we can not accommodate siblings on the trip. If you would like to chaperone this trip, please submit the chaperone form and $35 (add $2 for vegetarian lunch) payment with your child’s payment. If more chaperones sign up for the trip than we can accommodate, we will take them in the order they signed up.
FIELD TRIP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTSThe East Middle School music departments plan trips to provide excellent, musically oriented educational experiences for our students, and to reward them for quality effort and good behavior throughout the year. The students earn this reward by demonstrating a consistent record of individual effort and respectful behavior towards classmates and adults. Listed below are the criteria that must be met to participate in the Toledo Mud Hens trip. Students must meet or surpass these criteria in order to participate.
To attend the field trip, students must meet normal standards of appropriate classroom/rehearsal behavior. Students must show respect and courtesy to their peers, teachers and guest teachers. Normal standards of appropriate behavior include:
PERFORMANCE OF GOD BLESS AMERICA - AUDITION REQUIREMENT
Students will be required to audition and demonstrate proficiency in playing God Bless America. This music will be taught and rehearsed in class. We will help your child understand the audition expectations, but their success will also require dedication through consistent home practice. Proficiency will be determined by the music teachers through a series of assessments prior to the trip. The audition to perform at the game will require a well-polished performance of God Bless America by memory.
Memory is a challenge for many students and adults alike, but it is a necessary requirement due to a 5-minute time limit to get on the field, perform, and to get off. This is a great performance opportunity for students but one that requires a higher level of achievement due to the performance venue. It is our hope that all students achieve this goal, but the reality is that for 6th grade students this is a difficult challenge. Most likely not all students will perform, and that is okay. Please know that if your child does not meet the level of proficiency to perform, they are still part of the group, and will cheer on the performers and enjoy the game with everyone!
