Class Progress
the Students are getting very close to the point where we will use our bows. We have been working hard to develop our left hand and right hand skills independently and we are almost ready to start putting the two together.
In the book we are currently focusing on pages 8-9 and 10-11. We are also going to be working out of our 'Suzuki Packet'. This is a collection of materials from Suzuki Book 1 that we will use to develop our note reading skills, as well as our left hand technique, bowing technique, and memorization. When students test on each of the pieces in the packet, the expectation will be that they are playing from memory. We will be working on memorization skills in class to help students develop this skill.
When bows start going home again I will post some bow-specific information for care and use.
Students should be practicing on a fairly regular basis at this point. They should be building their stamina and making a goal of 10-20 minutes of practice every day. There is a saying that "you should only practice on the days you eat". The more that students practice, the more successful they will be. This will make them feel more confident and have more fun playing their instrument. If you are looking for ways to help your child practice you can visit the Helpful Things page under the Resources tab.

Materials
Please continue to work with your child to make sure they have their materials with them in class on a regular basis. This includes the following items:
Book
Folder or Binder (Binder is recommended)
Pencil (no pens)
Instrument
Shoulder rest (violins only)
If your child still does not have any of these items, or has lost them, please acquire them as soon as possible. If you need any assistance with this please let me know.
If a student does not have their materials for class I will be sending a notice home that needs to be signed by a parent and returned. It is essential that students have all of their materials on a regular basis.

Absences and Tardies
It is important for the progress of the class that students are on time to class on a regular basis. As we are approaching the time of year where weather is more of a factor in our morning routine, please plan accordingly to be sure that your student arrives to school before 7:30.
It is also important that students attend class on a regular basis. If your child is absent from a class, please email me so that I know whether or not they will be in class. Students who miss class more than one or two times will quickly fall behind in their skill development. We are learning new skills and information almost every time we have class and it is important that students are there to receive instruction.
